Team Vote Smart

Camilla Walter, Sara Cook, and Jordan Mc Kean

Team “Vote Smart” believes that unbiased, straightforward information should be readily available to students in an accessible format. We believe that students deserve a safe, informal place to read about, discuss and learn about politics. With the G.O.P. debates heating up, students need a place to learn which candidate would best represent them without all the filibustering and pandering getting in the way of their message. We believe that educated voters make the best choices for them, and finding an unbiased forum to learn about the issues is essential to the process of democracy.

The controversial debate over Boulder municipalization of utilities
has left many students confused about the bare facts. As different groups turn this into a "wedge issue," voters have been having trouble discerning factual sources from biased ones. It is becoming apparent on a local level that voters need access to information provided by an unbiased third-party source.

Today, so many news organizations have biases or political agendas, and as politically active students we aim to sweep aside the motives and present politicians honestly. This is such a valuable service in today’s world of opinion-driven pundits and lobbyists, especially for new voters such as college students, who are just getting used to the process. We believe that as students and young adults, we want to find our voices and support representatives that would best serve our interests. It is not enough to just register to vote, we must also educate ourselves in order for democracy to function as it should.
Our team has been working hard to foster an open and honest online community in support of voter education. Our blog and twitter account aim to inform, with no strings attached.
